| This year Kelowna's Community Food Bank Society is celebrating its 18th anniversary. It was founded in 1983 in a United Church basement by six directors, a Nun and the Salvation Army Group. Their purpose was to meet emergency food needs for the community. The Kelowna Food Bank grew from serving 600 people per year in the early eighties to 12,500 individuals by 1994.
